从设计的分类来看，我们最比较熟悉的是时尚设计，工业设计，产品设计和动画设计。其中工业设计涵盖范围最广的，申请人数最多的

定义
分类
广义的工业设计包括三大领域：
- 产品设计（交通工具设计，生活类用品设计，电子类产品设计等）
- 环境艺术设计（室外环境规划，室内装饰设计等）
- 视觉传达设计（企业识别系统，使用者接口设计等）
狭义的工业设计一般专指产品设计。它主要包括：
- 交通工具设计（车辆，飞行器，船艇等）
- 设备仪器设计（工业设备，生产机器，医疗设备及仪器，工程仪器工具等）
- 生活用品设计（文具，灯具，餐具、螺丝刀、钳子等）
- 家具设计(桌子，椅子，床，沙发)

A) A letter of intent of not more than 1,000 words focused on the applicant’s motivation for pursuing graduate study in Industrial Design at Art Center, discussing personal goals for the future after completion of the program, and views regarding any specific areas of interest within the field.
B) Project proposal: $10 million and two years. Description of a program of activity that the candidate would (hypothetically) propose to work on if given an open budget of $10 million and two years to work on a project of their choice.

What does an Industrial Design do? (工业设计的工作职责)
工业设计的步骤：
Industrial designers deal with the aesthetics and ergonomics of products, anything from household products to medical equipment and consumer electronics. We start with design exploration and conceptual sketching to put rough ideas on paper. Then we narrow down the solutions for our presentation to the client. We meet with the client, and the client chooses their favorites.
In the design refinement phase, we do computer renderings of the selected designs, using either Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator or a 3-D surface modeling program like Rhino. At this point, we develop mockups of the designs and present those to the client, and those are further narrowed down to the final choice.
In the design finalization phase, we continue with 3-D geometry development and further refinement of the design. The design then moves into engineering.

国外（以美国为例）：According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, industrial designers held about 48,000 jobs in 2006. While they predict that the number of jobs will grow seven percent by 2016, aspiring industrial designers can expect to face strong competition in the job market.
